Ran Neuner Net Worth and Bio 2026: Who Runs Crypto Banter?

Ran Neuner (@cryptomanran): documented bio, CNBC Crypto Trader, Crypto Banter, a $134M LUNA loss, disputed disclosures and why no net worth figure holds up.

Man speaking onstage at a crypto conference

Ran Neuner is a South African entrepreneur who sold an advertising agency, moved into crypto in 2017 and built Crypto Banter, a daily livestream with 1.18 million YouTube subscribers (vidIQ, 2026). His record holds a correct FTX warning, a missed $50,000 Bitcoin target for 2018 and a $134 million LUNA loss he describes himself. No regulator has acted against him. No source publishes a verified net worth.

Calls are public and timestamped, but fund holdings, sponsor terms and trade results are not published.

Our assessment

Neuner's market calls sit on a dated public record, and he has admitted two of his largest mistakes on camera. His fund positions and sponsor deals have no regular public disclosure, and two documented episodes show holdings he discussed on air without a clear statement of his own stake.

What stands out

  • Posts on X since 2017 carry timestamps, so anyone checks each call against later prices
  • He told the LUNA loss story publicly, with a figure of $134 million, in a 2024 interview with Raoul Pal
  • Crypto Banter publishes an ethics rule that bans selling a token for 24 hours after it is mentioned on air
  • The 6 November 2022 warning to move funds off FTX came two days before FTX halted withdrawals

What holds it back

  • The 1 February 2018 call for Bitcoin at $50,000 by year end missed. BTC closed 2018 below $4,000
  • In May 2021 Crypto Banter sold TLM on the day of a TLM interview, against its own 24-hour rule
  • No audited figures for Onchain Capital or Banter Capital. Fund sizes come from his own conference bios
  • In 2018 he acknowledged a $350,000 Blockchain Terminal stake only after The Block reported on it

Ran Neuner biography

Neuner studied finance at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. CryptoSlate's profile lists a Harvard Business School program from 2017 to 2019, and his conference bios describe him as a CFA charterholder. We did not find his name in a public CFA Institute record, so the credential rests on his own bios.

He has said in podcast interviews that he started as a stockbroker and was fired. In 2001 he co-founded The Creative Counsel with Gil Oved. The Johannesburg agency grew into a sales and marketing group, and Publicis Groupe bought it in 2015 in a deal TimesLIVE valued at R1 billion. CNBC gave him its All Africa Business Leader Award for Southern Africa in 2014. He stayed CEO of the agency until 2018.

His crypto career follows this timeline:

  1. 2017: co-founds Onchain Capital, a fund and advisory firm, and launches Crypto Trader on CNBC Africa.
  2. November 2020: launches Crypto Banter, a live call-in stream of market news and guest interviews.
  3. 2021: Cointelegraph places him at #90 in its Top 100 people in crypto.
  4. Later years: co-founds Crypto Town Hall, a daily X Spaces series, with Mario Nawfal and Scott Melker.

Blockworks describes Onchain Capital as managing over $250 million. His ABS 2024 bio calls Banter Capital a $200 million fund. Both figures come from bios he supplied. We found no audited report or regulatory filing that confirms them.

Ran Neuner net worth: what the record supports

No filing, audit or court document states his net worth. Traders Union puts it at $10 million for 2025 and discloses no method. Other sites print $100 million alongside wrong basic facts, such as a 2011 founding date for Onchain Capital. We treat both numbers as unverified.

His documented income lines are these:

  • Proceeds from his share of The Creative Counsel sale in 2015. His percentage is not public.
  • Management and advisory fees from Onchain Capital.
  • Sponsorship and advertising revenue from Crypto Banter. Sponsor terms are not published.
  • Personal crypto and equity positions. In a 2026 Milk Road interview he said he held 11 positions, with Coinbase stock as the largest.

Then LUNA. Neuner told Raoul Pal that more than half of his portfolio sat in Terra's token in May 2022, and that he lost $134 million in four days. He also said he had reached zero three times in his career, once in the dot-com crash. A man who tells that story on camera has no reason to inflate his balance sheet afterwards. He also has no reason to publish it. The total stays unknown.

Price calls on record and what happened

The table compares dated public statements with later prices.

DateStatementWhat happened
1 Feb 2018Bitcoin will end 2018 at $50,000BTC closed 2018 below $4,000
20 Jul 2019Bitcoin will never trade at $5,000 againBTC fell below $4,000 in March 2020
May 2022Entering LUNA was the best risk-reward trade he had seen in yearsLUNA traded below $0.001 by 13 May 2022
6 Nov 2022Get your funds out of FTXFTX halted withdrawals on 8 November 2022
Feb 2026Bitcoin has failed its store-of-value testA thesis change, not a price target. BTC traded below $70,000 at the time

The February 2026 statement deserves context. After 12 years of public Bitcoin advocacy, Neuner argued that capital ran to gold during the tariff and currency stress of late 2025. He laid out three outcomes, and one of them treats Bitcoin as a coin that needs more time. In March 2026 he told Cointelegraph he struggles to explain why people should buy it. Compare this with MMCrypto's Bitcoin calls, which stayed bullish through the same period.

Disputes and criticism

The cases below are documented in media reports. None led to a court ruling or regulatory finding that we found as of 5 November 2026.

Blockchain Terminal, December 2018

The Block reported that Blockchain Terminal, an ICO-funded trading tool, was linked to Boaz Manor, a man with a past under another name. Analyst Larry Cermak then alleged that Neuner had invested $1.3 million and placed $950,000 more for others, without disclosure. Neuner called the claims inaccurate. In a Medium post he said his own stake was $350,000 and that he left the advisory role in September 2018. Breaker pointed out the problem with that defense. By his own account he learned of Manor's role in September and said nothing publicly. His lawyers reviewed a libel case against Cermak. We found no record that one was filed.

Alien Worlds, May 2021

On 5 May 2021 Crypto Banter sold TLM worth 0.43 BTC, near $25,000 at the time, on the day its stream hosted the Alien Worlds team. The channel's ethics policy bans selling a mentioned token for 24 hours. Neuner said he did not execute the trade himself, that the sale was under 1% of a $2.5 million position and that it funded other investments. He called it bad timing and said he was not proud of it.

ZachXBT and FatManTerra, 2022

After LUNA collapsed, the investigator FatManTerra examined Neuner's ties to Terraform Labs and said in July 2022 that Neuner's lawyers had threatened a suit. ZachXBT accused him of dumping tokens on followers. Protos reported cease-and-desist letters and a threat to reveal ZachXBT's identity. The two later went through mediation. According to Neuner, ZachXBT then posted a thread on 3 February 2023 accepting that parts of his claims were wrong. For a similar dispute and how it ended, see our Crypto Rover profile.

Crypto Banter's status in 2026

On 22 July 2026 Coinfomania reported that Neuner had announced a Crypto Banter closure on X. The article does not quote the post or say whether one show or the whole brand was meant. We found no primary source that confirms the closure, and the YouTube channel kept publishing after that date.

How to identify the real Ran Neuner accounts

Scammers copy large crypto hosts with lookalike handles and fake giveaways. The verified channels are these:

  • X: @cryptomanran for Neuner and @crypto_banter for the show.
  • YouTube: @CryptoBanterGroup, created 15 September 2017.
  • Website: cryptobanter.com.
  • Telegram: t.me/cryptobantergroup, as listed in Crypto Banter's 2021 press release.

A direct message from "Ran" that offers returns, a trading group or a wallet connection does not come from these accounts. Neither does a giveaway that asks you to send crypto first. Report the profile to the platform and do not reply.
