Recently conducted Humans.net survey shows that 38% (385) of the 1100 respondents, who are American freelancers, use cryptocurrency on the regular basis or periodically, as reported by CCN. 24% of them heard about it for the first time. 41% of surveyed hadn’t used this means of payment, but were acquainted with it.
Respondents highlighted the following positive aspect of cryptocurrencies: international payment development and possibility to conduct direct payments.
Digital freelancers, who work on the Internet platform, prefer paying in cash for a number of reasons. One of them is absence of firm working relationship with customers or clients, which is the obstacle for conducting paying by credit card.
Cryptocurrencies (bitcoin and others) have been created to make the payment process more reliable and trustworthy. With the use of this means of payment, participants, who receive money, have funds if they keep the address-related keys. Some businesses (e.g. Bitwage.com) allow freelancers to get their earnings partly in Bitcoin and partly as regular fiat. This practice is likely to be emulated by key freelance platforms, which will have this functionality embedded.
Blockchain technology, belonging to the peer-to-peer group, offers other benefits to its users, in particular relieving them from the necessity to overpay for using freelance sites’ services. Humans.net has recently introduced this advanced model.
