One of the leading crypto exchanges Coinbase offers everyone to start using cryptocurrency for retail purchases of goods and services. WeGift (online gift card platform) has been integrated into the Coinbase wallet. Now you can buy WeGift card with cryptocurrency. However, the crypto will not be on the card itself but on the Coinbase wallet. We assume that the gift card only confirms the presence of a certain number of virtual coins. If you want to buy something using the card, cryptocurrency will be converted to fiat according to the Coinbase exchange rates.
Today, the gift card supports BTC, ETH, BCH, and LTC. Probably, this list will be expanded in the future.
Now you can pay with crypto in all retail networks that support WeGift. There are about 120 of them today, including M&S, Uber, Carrefour, Google Play, Tesco.
However, not everyone can fell all the delights of the new service. The service is available only in the US and some European countries (France, Spain, Netherlands, and Italy).
This is a huge step in popularizing cryptocurrency and attracting new users to the market. Proceeding from the fact that Coinbase has received a UK e-money license, we might expect new, even more ambitious projects.
